Cleaning swords
I have two decorative swords. One of them is a rather inexpensive (but with sentimental value) souvenir sword from Disney World. The other is a VERY nice handcrafted hand-and-a-half that I won at the volunteer raffle at Gulf Wars VII. I was always careful of how they were handled, and had them nicely displayed in my home--until we moved. The movers packed them without my supervision--I couldn't be everywhere at once. I noticed with appoval that they had been swathed in padded paper, and had left them that way until we had a proper place in our new home to display them. So today, we unwrapped them and discovered that the STUPID MOVERS HAD TAPED THEM TOGETHER WITH PACKING TAPE!! Now they have tape residue on them, and what may possibly be rust spots. I don't want to damage them further. Any ideas of the best way to clean them? |

Shoe merchants?
Other than Medieval Moccasins and Turtle Island Moccasins, does anyone know of a merchant at Pennsic who sells shoes? My Medieval Moccasins have served me well for years, but they're now officially dead and I'm looking for a plausibly-period pair of shoes whose insides won't turn into mud when it rains. (For the record, I'm a women's size 7, or thereabouts.) Thanks. |

looking for Pennsic homeschoolers/unschoolers
Hail and well met, We are heading to Pennsic next week and we are looking for other homeschooling/unschooling families to hang out with. The kids are 12 (Tristan) and 10 (Bridget). We're fairly new to the SCA, but have been homeschooling since they were born. It would also be cool to learn more about youth activities for their ages. They are bringing their bows, so archery is definitely on the list. Bridget is interested in some of the craft-type classes, as well as dancing - are kids her age (10) welcome at these, even if they're not designated as youth classes? Any feedback or info would be helpful. Thanks! |

Sad news passed along by a friend
Duchess Arielle the Golden passed away this morning after a nine year battle with cancer. Arielle was a beacon of light. She was unfailingly courteous and projected good cheer. Such was her stature that the Kingdom of Atlantia established the Award of Arielle to honor courtesy in children. Among her legacies is the Children's Fete at Pennsic. Our world is dimmer for her passing. Please hold those close to her, particularly her husband, Valharic, in the light. Crossposted to midrealm. |

Sticking with it
I am looking for any Herbalifers who are interested in maintaining their exercise/diet routine while at Pennsic--especially the Healthy Breakfast. Also, anyone have any clever "medieval" ways to hide their plastic shakers etc. while at events??? |

Sad news: R.I.P. Arielle
From the Merry Rose: Atlantia, It is with very sad hearts that we write to you today. Atlantia has lost one of its most loved members. Duchess Arielle the Golden passed away this morning after a nine year battle with cancer. She was undergoing treatment in Houston, Texas at MD Anderson hospital. At this time, arrangements are still being made and information will be provided as We know more. We ask that you please give Duke Valharic space during this difficult time. Please continue to send cards or other correspondence to Mistress Alesia, Kingdom Seneschal. Thank you, [TRM] Logan and Esa And: It is with a heavy and grieving heart that I come to tell you all that Atlantia has lost it's own Golden Rose. Duchess Arielle the Golden left us all early this morning. She left peacefully with those she loved at her side. She was, is and always shall be an inspiration to everyone who has had the grace to know her. She is a shining example of all that is lovely, gracious and good in us all. May we all hold her in our memories and in our hearts for all time as she will hold us in hers. We will miss her greatly, but she will be with us in our hearts for all time. More details will be forthcoming at a later date. [Duchess] Seonaid |

Mmm, cookies
When I was in high school practicing for a theater performance, the teacher in charge had a customary cookie: the curtain call. When it was time to practice the curtain call, it was because he felt we were ready to go -- if opening night was the next day, we would have been able to put on a great show. By the end of I Genesii practice last night, I think that if warrewyk had been present, it would have been time to practice the curtain call. We have a fairly small cast this year, so it's a smaller scope than we have had in the past. But I think we're looking good and ready to go for August 3 at 9 pm. Wait, when? Oh, right -- August 3 at 9 pm. :) |

MemcacheD Update
Just wanted to let everyone know, that a new version of MemcacheD has been released. We will be rolling this out to the memcache nodes during the week of July 20th to 24th. This should have very little impact on the stability of the website; however users may see a slight increase in load times as the cache is re-populated with entries. The software has been tested and verified to be working just fine with the application; so we perceive this to be a very minimal risk in regards to updating, and the stability of the website. Thanks... Current Mood: busyCurrent Music: NOFX - San Francisco Fat |

Transportation
Greetings! I am looking for a ride to and from Pennsic. I live in the Barony of Jararvellir (Madison, WI) and would like to bring my rapier and heavy kits with me. I'm a non-smoker, generally easy-going and know how to drive stick. I am willing to pay my way either monitarily or through service. Contact me at my yahoo account under the username "accidentalninja". I will cross-post this to the Northshield list. Thank you. Current Mood: tiredCurrent Music: Fan |

Can't wait for war!!!!! I'm not fully packed yet, but getting there! I've finished *most* of my projects, nothing that I can't finish this Sunday. I'm surprisingly not worried about not being able to drink - it's been five months of dryness, I can make it through 2 weeks! I'm sure I'll miss out on some of the partying too, just for the sheer exhaustion I feel after a certain hour. Hopefully afternoon naps and the luxury of not being at work will keep me more energetic. |

Anyone like a Renaissance Festival?
I consider it like an amusement park crossed with an SCA event. But no camping. We also don't / can't advertise much so we use the internet as much as we can. Read on about bcrenfestJust East of Vancouver, Canada there is a small town called Steller's Grove. King James IV is there and his queen, the lovely Margaret. Little do they know the pirates have returned ... again! Maybe they just want to see the joust? This video sums up the festivities. We're still, STILL looking for volunteers to run our games / rides section. My blog has details about that. We are THREE days away and so much to do. yikes. Thanks for listening Current Mood: busy |

I used to think of myself as a decent, upstanding citizen. But apparently I'm more hosed than most of you. The Dante's Inferno Test has banished you to the Sixth Level of Hell - The City of Dis!Here is how you matched up against all the levels: Take the Dante's Inferno Hell Test |

A March For Pennsic Opening Ceremonies
Greetings, and apologies for duplicate postings: Mistress Shannon Gallowglass was kind enough to publish the lyrics to "Follow The Tyger" in the July Pikestaff as a way of making the words available to anyone who might want to perform the song during the march to Opening Ceremonies (we need singers and/or drummers and/or pipers and/or shawm players and/or crumhorn players...). Thanks to Mistress Rufina and Master John (Elys), the tune is available to download (one vocal, one instrumental) in mp3 format at http://www.ostgardr.org/music/follow-the-tyger/ If you are not otherwise committed (you know, volunteering, teaching, sleeping) on Sunday morning of War Week and want to perform, please contact me at sndsfnny AT msn DOT com. Respectfully Submitted, Judith Fitzhenry the Uncertain, Minstrel of Queens ('strewth...I live in Queens County...never mind...8) (ETA different userpic) |

Two local Scadians need help . . .
If you were at court at Northern Region War Camp Saturday, you saw Emma and Talorc get their AoAs. Last night, their apartment house burned down. They lost everything. My protege, lady Ratburc Castus is leading the way in helping them. Here's her latest note: Hey everyone.
Emma and Talorc will have a place to stay. Although of course I'd have let them camp out in my yard, I pretty much suspected when I said yes to that, that by the end of the day a better plan would be in place for them. The Red Cross is putting them up for several days, and after that they have an offer of a small (but not burnt up!) place to stay until they get on their feet in a new place of their own.
I know that they will eventually have a need for all household items - kitchen items, shelves, beds, dressers, tables, etc. Probably the most helpful thing would be money. It is surprising how fast small gifts add up. As has been posted, I am willing to be a direction point for gift cards to stores/visa cash cards. Also, anyone wanting to drop off actual stuff can drop it on my front porch during the day and I will get things to them. I can be reached at jenphalian "at" gmail "dot" com for my address, etc.
In addition to that, I have set up a paypal account using the email address EmmaAndTalorc "at" gmail dot com. Anyone who wishes to use paypal to send a gift can certainly do so.
These details can be reposted as needs be.
Glad to be a SCAdian in times like these, Rat
Also, Jared's been doing a lot of work, and he's got this: As for clothing sizes Allen is size 32/32 for pants and large shirts, Brian is 36,/32 pants xl shirt, Josh is 36/32 pants and xl shirt , Lisa is 36/32 pants xl shirt, Vance, who also lost a good deal of his stuff, is 36/32 pants also xl shirt. If you need clothing picked up I can do that after three or on the weekend just give me a day and a time.
I can provide his contact information, and I will shuttle stuff, too.
I love you guys. Liam liamstliam@gmail.com Edit: I will keep track of the furniture offers and get back to folks when the time comes. |
